Earl of Moira
Royal Navy Gun Crew
Graham D. Hewitt
The Earl of Moira
The Earl of Moira is a group of like minded individuals that love living history, camping and having a great time together. Group members are centered around the London area. We also have active participants from Goderich, Paisley, Strathroy, Burlington, Brampton and Whitby.
Our main focus is our 3 lb. cannon, (nicknamed Elsie). We represent a naval landing party from the Great Lakes during the war of 1812, but we are much more.
Several of our members will also kit up as
fur traders / voyagers and even Pirates from the Grand old age of piracy.
We have taken part in a variety of re-enactments, civic celebrations, and Remembrance Day services. We have been, from St. Jean, Quebec, Fort Erie, Brampton, Wasaga and Paisley, to as far as a special celebration of the 200th & 201st Anniversaries of the Battle of New Orleans in Louisiana.
We have an eclectic display of "tools of the trade" Belaying pins, deck prisms, shackles, cat of 9 tails, hard tack, fids, brown besses, British naval muskets, flintlock guns etc.
We eagerly share our knowledge of all aspects of naval life in the 1800's onboard our namesake
HM. EARL OF MOIRA
She was built in Kingston, saw service on the Great Lakes and helped blockade the American fleet at Sackets Harbour.
We are available to attend Special events
